My favorite albums of the 00's

Here's a list of my favorite albums of the past decade ... hope you enjoy it!

25. Joanna Newsom - The Milk Eyed Mender

This really takes me back to college life ... simpler times my friends ... it's really great, and, sometimes I can't believe how bizarre her voice is!

24. Mountain Goats - Tallahassee

I've only recently gotten into the Mountain Goats, and this album instantly grabbed me as being really remarkable ... there are some truly great songs on this album and the instrumentation and songwriting is top notch for sure

23. The Avalanches - Since I Left You

Man I love this album ... it gets me every time and puts me in a wonderful mood ... it also spawned my favorite music video of all time:

22. The Thermals - The Body, The Blood, The Machine

Just a pretty straight forward catchy rock album ... I like how kind of simple they are in a way, but still deliver some really catchy hard rockin' stuff at times

21. The Postal Service - Give Up

Sorry to my buds who really like Death Cab a lot, but, this is my favorite thing Ben Gibbard has ever done ... it is also super nostalgic for me ... my favorite song is "Nothing Better", and Ben has a line in it and I wonder if he knows it's not accurate ... "like a goalie tending a net in the third quarter" ... as far as I can think there is not a sport that has a goalie tending a net that has quarters ... maybe i'm wrong

20. The National - Boxer

Sure, it's kind of boring ... but, sometimes a simple thing executed really well is better than one that is more complicated but not as well executed ... and yes, I do think this is better than Alligator

19. Daft Punk - Discovery

Great album, super nostalgic (again) ... lots of dance parties where made possible because of this album ... also, has one of my favorite songs of all time:

18. Fugazi - The Argument

A pretty great album from one of my favorite bands of all time ... also, another one that has one of my favorite songs of all time!

17. Spoon - Kill the Moonlight

This band is really awesome and diverse and keep pumping out quality releases ... personally, I think this is their best and a really inventive album

16. Neko Case - Blacklisted

I think Neko Case has one of the best voices I've ever heard, and probably my personal favorite ... this album is really great and pretty country (in a good way) ... check the video below for an example of how incredible her voice is

15. Yo La Tengo - And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out

I can't listen to this album all the time, but when the mood strikes there is almost nothing better ... this is one of my favorite bands of all time with one of their best albums to date

14. Arcade Fire - Neon Bible

Arcade Fire are proving to be a wonderful band and it'll be interesting to see what they do next ... this is only one of two bands with two appearances on the list ... I love both albums they have released, but, I love this one a little less

13. Destroyer - Rubies

I really like his take on the singer songwriter style ... a little weird and unpredictable and truly original

12. Arcade Fire - Funeral

Again, Arcade Fire is awesome ... I listened to this a lot during my internship in Chicago, so, it's very nostalgic for me ... some of the best jams ever on here!

11. Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion

One of only two albums from 2009 on the list ... lots of great jams and best if listened all the way through in one sitting

10. Bjork - Vespertine

Yea, she is a bit of a freak ... but, she's a bit of a freak that knows how to write incredible music ... this isn't my favorite album of hers ... but, it is really great nonetheless

9. The Walkmen - You and Me

To me, this album gets better with each listen ... great throughout with several stand out songs

8. Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest

The other album from 2009 ... this one is a grower and has been getting better with each listen since earlier this year ... wonderful harmonies and great songwriting mixed with fantastic instrumentation

7. Sufjan Stevens - Seven Swans

By far my favorite Sufjan album ... I hope he does a simpler banjo album again sometime soon!

6. Radiohead - In Rainbows

The second band that will appear twice on this list ... this release took me by surprise, and I never remember being so excited for an album ever in my life ... when I got it I woke up extremely early and went to downtown Plymouth and listened to it all the way through probably three or four times before going to work ... it was great then, and has only gotten better since

5. Iron and Wine - Creek Drank the Cradle

I absolutely love Iron and Wine ... but, I don't know if they can ever top their first release ... too beautiful for words

4. The Shins - Chutes too Narrow

Before doing this list I forgot how much I love The Shins, and this album is their best ... every song is great ... the vocals on this album are ridiculous and the songwriting is incredibly catchy and creative ... SOOOO GOOD!

3. Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot

One of my favorite bands of all time that has faded in the past few years ... but, when you listen to this one you remember why they are so great

2. Outkast - Stankonia

The only rap album on the list ... there were a lot of great rap albums in the 00's but it's so hard to compare rap to other forms of music ... however, this is by far my favorite rap album of the decade and I had to include it

1. Radiohead - Kid A

Far and away my favorite album of the decade ... no question about it ... perfect from start to finish
